Federal prosecutors have unsealed an indictment against a soccer fan facing up to 40 years in federal prison for arson resulting in an injury during an Orlando City soccer game held on Feb. 24, 2024, at Inter&Co Stadium. Giovanni Isai Ramirez Reyes, 37, was federally indicted last month by a grand jury. He is accused of lighting two flares and tossing them into the crowd, which led to burns to a child attending the match and stadium damages, as stated in a news release by federal prosecutors.
A statement released by Orlando City Soccer Club to WESH.com highlighted their ongoing collaboration with local and federal law enforcement to identify and hold individuals accountable for severe violations of Inter&Co Stadium policies. The team emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of fans, players, and staff and stated they would not tolerate actions that compromise this.
Ramirez Reyes was arrested on Tuesday and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A status hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12 at the Orlando Federal Courthouse, with a trial date set for Dec. 2. If convicted, Ramirez Reyes could face a mandatory minimum penalty of seven years, up to 40 years, in federal prison.
Social media responses to the incident included users condemning the individual's actions as foolish and disrespectful, with one user expressing hope that the person responsible does not have children.
