In a series of trade transactions, the Minnesota Wild have bolstered their defensive lineup by acquiring Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning, while also parting ways with Calen Addison, who has been traded to the San Jose Sharks. These deals aim to strengthen the Wild's defense and provide Addison with a new opportunity in San Jose.
As part of the deal with the Lightning, the Wild sent a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to Tampa Bay in exchange for the 33-year-old defenseman, Bogosian. Although he hasn't registered a point in the four games played this season, Bogosian brings a wealth of experience to the Wild, having played for various teams including the Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, and the Maple Leafs.
During the 2022-23 season, Bogosian recorded five points, including one goal and four assists, and delivered a remarkable 114 hits. His contributions were instrumental in the Lightning's victorious Stanley Cup run in 2020, where he provided four assists. Bogosian was originally selected as the third overall pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2008 NHL Draft.
The addition of Bogosian will be crucial for the Wild, who have been without their captain, Jared Spurgeon, due to an upper-body injury this season. General Manager Bill Guerin spoke highly of Bogosian, noting his experience, physicality, and the positive reports from individuals within the organization who have worked with him in the past.
Meanwhile, Calen Addison, a 23-year-old defenseman, has been traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Adam Raska and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Addison has shown promise during his time with the Wild, with five assists in 12 games this season. He also finished among the top three rookie NHL defensemen in the previous season.
Sharks General Manager Mike Grier expressed excitement about acquiring Addison, highlighting his ability to read the game, move the puck effectively, and contribute on the power play. This trade will provide Addison with a fresh opportunity to further develop his skills and contribute to the Sharks' roster.
The Wild, currently with a record of 5-5-2, will face the New York Rangers on Thursday, looking to build on their recent 4-2 victory against the New York Islanders. With the addition of Bogosian, the Wild hope to maintain their momentum and strengthen their defensive core.
On the other hand, the struggling San Jose Sharks, with a record of 1-10-1, will host the Edmonton Oilers at SAP Center on Thursday. After a difficult start to the season, the Sharks managed to secure their first win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday and will strive to build upon their recent success.
In other news, the Sharks have recalled forward Oskar Lindblom from their American Hockey League affiliate, while defenseman Jacob MacDonald has been placed on injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury. Lindblom brings a wealth of NHL experience, having recorded 112 points in 336 games for the Sharks and the Flyers.
Overall, these recent trades shake up the rosters of both the Minnesota Wild and the San Jose Sharks, with hopes of strengthening their respective lineups and finding success in the NHL season.
