The proposal, if successful, would see the North American neighbors hosting global soccer's two showcase events back-to-back, following their joint hosting of the 2026 men's World Cup.
In a statement, U.S. Soccer expressed their excitement at the prospect of bringing the Women's World Cup to North America, highlighting the current extraordinary growth in women's sports as an opportunity to deliver an unprecedentedly successful tournament. U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone emphasized that the shared venues, infrastructure, and protocols used for the Men's World Cup a year prior would be leveraged, turning this co-hosting opportunity into a huge positive for women's soccer.
The bidding process for the 2027 Women's World Cup has seen significant interest from other countries as well. Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands also submitted a joint bid, showcasing their ambition to host the prestigious event. Additionally, Brazil has put forward its solo bid to world soccer governing body FIFA last month.
FIFA will organize on-site inspection visits to the bidding countries in February 2027, closely assessing their readiness and capabilities. The hosts for the 2027 Women's World Cup will be announced in May, during the FIFA Congress.
The joint bid by the United States and Mexico comes at a pivotal time for women's soccer, as it aims to unlock the economic potential of the sport and inspire young players worldwide. Should North America secure the hosting rights for both the men's and women's World Cups in consecutive years, it would send a powerful message about the limitless possibilities and achievements that can be attained in women's football.
Meanwhile, South Africa had initially submitted a bid for the 2027 edition but withdrew last month, opting to focus on presenting a more well-prepared bid for the 2031 Women's World Cup.
The most recent Women's World Cup, held in 2023, was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, with Spain emerging victorious by defeating England in the final. The upcoming 2027 edition holds immense promise for women's soccer, as multiple nations vie for the opportunity to showcase the unparalleled quality and impact of the tournament.
As the bidding process nears its conclusion, soccer fans worldwide eagerly await the announcement of the hosts for the 2027 Women's World Cup, eagerly anticipating the prospects of another remarkable tournament on North American soil.
