In a Super Bowl XL rematch, the Pittsburgh Steelers showcased a strong rushing attack that helped them secure an early lead against the Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers' offense looked solid as they went 80 yards on 14 plays to score the first touchdown of the game.
Running back Jaylen Warren made an immediate impact, carrying the ball four times for 40 yards and punching in the first touchdown from 18 yards out. Meanwhile, Najee Harris contributed with seven carries for 33 yards. The Steelers rushed their way to a 7-0 lead with just 1:47 remaining in the first quarter.
Pittsburgh continued to rely on their rushing game, as they successfully converted on a fourth-and-1 play at the Seahawks' 45-yard line. Mason Rudolph executed a 1-yard sneak to keep the drive alive. Warren proved to be a valuable asset once again, gaining 20 yards on his first two carries, while Harris added 14 yards on four carries.
The Steelers had a stroke of luck when Diontae Johnson tipped the ball back into play after going out of bounds. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, the play was ruled dead, and they retained possession at their own 36-yard line. Johnson's involvement didn't end there, as he handed the ball to Michael Jackson for a 17-yard pickup, which was surprisingly ruled a fumble recovery.
Despite a valiant effort by the Seahawks, they were unable to convert on a fourth-and-1 play, opting to punt instead. Seattle aimed to win the field position game, utilizing Noah Fant to attack the middle of Pittsburgh's defense with a completion. The Seahawks' decision to punt paid off, pinning the Steelers deep.
The Steelers' offense faced some struggles as Riq Woolen broke up Rudolph's fourth-down pass to Pickens. Pittsburgh's ability to move the ball relied heavily on their running game, particularly Warren's 11-yard run. However, the Steelers' two other carries only gained a total of five yards.
Diontae Johnson provided a much-needed spark for the Steelers, converting their first third down of the game. Johnson has a history of success with Rudolph, leading the team in receiving yards during Rudolph's previous stint as the starting quarterback in 2019.
In terms of betting trends, the Steelers have covered the spread in eight of their last 15 games, with the under hitting in 10 of those games. On the other hand, the Seahawks have struggled against AFC opponents, covering the spread in only one of their last seven games.
This game holds special significance as it marks the final career game for Jerome Bettis in his hometown. The Steelers have emerged victorious in three of their last five matchups against the Seahawks since their Super Bowl XL showdown. However, in their most recent visit to Seattle in 2015, the Steelers fell short, losing 39-30.
As the game unfolds, football fans eagerly await to see if the Steelers can maintain their solid rushing attack and secure a victory against the Seahawks once again.
