South Carolina basketball fans are making history this season as they approach breaking an all-time college basketball record for average attendance. The Gamecocks' home games have been a hot ticket, with sellouts becoming the norm at the Colonial Life Arena.

With a capacity crowd at Sunday's game against the Ole Miss Rebels, it marked the third sellout for South Carolina this season. The team's previous home game against Vanderbilt was also a sellout, and the upcoming highly anticipated matchup against UConn is already sold out as well.

Under head coach Dawn Staley's leadership, South Carolina basketball has consistently led the country in average attendance each season, and this year is no different. The game attendance has been at a record-setting pace, with an average of 16,122 fans per game at Colonial Life Arena.

This remarkable turnout is breaking new ground, as no women's college basketball program in the 21st century has seen such a large number of fans attending their games. The current record for average attendance is held by the 1999 Tennessee Lady Volunteers, who had an average of 16,565 fans per game. However, it's worth noting that their Thompson-Boling Arena has a larger capacity than Colonial Life Arena.

If South Carolina continues to sell out the remaining games on their schedule and maintain an average of 17,000 fans per game, they will have a strong chance of matching or even surpassing the record set by Tennessee.

It's not just the average attendance record that South Carolina is eying; they already hold the all-time record for total attendance in a season, drawing in over 244,000 fans during the 2015-2016 season. Both South Carolina and Tennessee dominate the top-10 total attendance and average attendance seasons of all time.

With 15 regular-season games left and the potential for NCAA Tournament games in Columbia, South Carolina, the Gamecocks seem poised to break their own total attendance record. The team's current undefeated and unanimous #1 ranking only adds to the excitement, fueling the fans' enthusiasm to cheer for South Carolina basketball.

The dedication and passion of the Gamecock fans have been evident time and time again, and when the team performs exceptionally well on the court, their support reaches new heights. As South Carolina basketball pushes forward towards setting a new average attendance record, the fans remain a crucial part of the team's success.
