In a highly anticipated move, Scott Perunovich will make his comeback to the St. Louis Blues lineup on Saturday as they prepare to host the Chicago Blackhawks in their final game before the holiday break. Perunovich, who last played on December 12 against the Detroit Red Wings, has only appeared in 17 of the Blues' 32 games this season.
Blues Head Coach Drew Bannister, who previously coached Perunovich with the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds, spoke highly of the young defenseman, noting his talent and determination. Bannister expressed his desire to provide Perunovich with an opportunity to regain his confidence and find success on the ice.
During Saturday's morning skate, it was revealed that Perunovich would be replacing Tyler Tucker on the third defense pair alongside Marco Scandella. This change in the lineup showcases the team's faith in Perunovich's abilities and their commitment to helping him rediscover his form.
The return of Perunovich comes as the Blues aim to rebound from recent struggles and solidify their roster heading into the holiday break. Jordan Binnington is expected to start in goal after a strong performance by Joel Hofer, who recorded an impressive 37 saves in the Blues' previous game against the Florida Panthers.
As the team prepares to face the Blackhawks, they are looking to generate offensive momentum with the line combinations of Pavel Buchnevich, Robert Thomas, and Jordan Kyrou leading the charge. Jake Neighbours, Brayden Schenn, and Kasperi Kapanen will form another potent forward line, while Brandon Saad, Kevin Hayes, and Alexey Toropchenko aim to contribute with their skill and experience. Mackenzie MacEachern, Oskar Sundqvist, and Sammy Blais complete the forward lineup.
On the defensive end, the Blues will rely on the pairing of Nick Leddy and Colton Parayko for their solid defensive play, while Torey Krug and Justin Faulk provide offensive prowess from the blue line. Joining them will be Marco Scandella, who will partner with the returning Scott Perunovich.
With Perunovich's return, the Blues hope to regain their winning form and build momentum as they head into the holiday break. The young defenseman's presence on the ice will undoubtedly add valuable depth to the team's defensive lineup, providing them with a boost in confidence as they face the formidable Chicago Blackhawks.
