In a season filled with disappointment, the Detroit Pistons find themselves on the verge of making history with a 25-game losing streak. With their next game against the Brooklyn Nets, the Pistons could tie the single-season record for the longest in-season losing streak of 26 games, set by the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers and the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pistons owner Tom Gores addressed the media to discuss the current state of the franchise and express his concern over the team's dismal 2-26 record. While Gores deemed the notion of selling the team "ridiculous," he acknowledged the need for change and held GM Troy Weaver accountable for turning things around quickly.

"We expected a lot more. But we have to be real and acknowledge that there are things that haven't been working with the makeup of the team," Gores stated during a Zoom call. "Accountability must be held, and we may need to make additions to the staff. What's for sure is that change is coming."

Gores recently met with Weaver, head coach Monty Williams, and several players to assess the team's issues and discuss potential directives. The next month will be critical for the franchise's future, as Weaver's tenure as GM could be on the line. Despite Weaver's previous success in creating financial flexibility and establishing a young roster, the team lacks veteran talent to guide the young players effectively.

While the Pistons have avoided burdening themselves with bad contracts, injuries have plagued the few veteran talents they acquired. Monte Morris has been sidelined all season due to a quad injury, and top scorer Bojan Bogdanović has only played nine games while recovering from a calf strain. The team's lack of 3-point shooting, combined with injuries, has contributed to their current predicament.

Gores acknowledged that perhaps the youth on the roster had been underestimated, as the Pistons have eight players under the age of 23 receiving significant playing time. Despite the team's poor performance, Gores remains optimistic about the future but emphasizes the need for immediate action.

Weaver, who took on several projects in hopes of unlocking untapped potential, has faced challenges in creating a cohesive team. The Pistons' organizational direction has been hindered by conflicting philosophies and influential voices within the organization. Gores acknowledged that the franchise needs a top-down mentality to ensure a unified vision for success.

As the losing streak continues, Cade Cunningham, the team's number one pick in the 2021 draft, has shown promise but still has room for improvement. Cunningham recently took accountability at a press conference, admitting his own mistakes and lackluster defense.

With the Pistons in desperate need of a turnaround, Weaver and the entire organization must take a comprehensive look at themselves and make the necessary changes to rectify this dire situation. The clock is ticking, and the franchise's future hangs in the balance.

It remains to be seen how the Pistons will navigate this challenging period, but one thing is clear: change is imminent, and it starts with Weaver and his ability to reshape the team and restore their competitive spirit.
