In a surprising turn of events, Coniglio's Old Fashioned pizzeria in New Jersey has announced the cancellation of an autograph signing event with former NFL player Tommy DeVito. The pizzeria claims that DeVito's agent, Sean Stellato, abruptly raised the fee for the two-hour visit from $10,000 to $20,000 following the New York Giants' recent victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.
The announcement came via an Instagram post made by Coniglio's Old Fashioned on Monday, where they expressed their inability to afford DeVito's increased appearance fee. According to the pizzeria, they are a small family-owned business and deemed the revised price to be too steep.
"After last week's win we received word from his agent that his appearance fee would be doubling (went from 10k to 20); We are a small family run business & decided $20,000 was a bit steep for 2 hours," read the post.
However, Stellato responded to the pizzeria's claims, stating that there was never a formal agreement in place between the two parties and thus no last-minute price increase. He communicated this through a text message to The Action Network's Darren Rovell.
"It's a shame that the restaurant promoted that they would have Tommy when we didn't have a signed contract," Stellato explained in the text. "We didn't raise the price because nothing was ever agreed to."
In an attempt to dispute Stellato's statement, Nino Coniglio, the owner of Coniglio's Old Fashioned, shared screenshots of his conversation with Stellato. The screenshots, sent to Rovell, show a tentative agreement at $10,000 for DeVito's visit.
The timing of this dispute has fueled speculation, as it coincides with the New York Giants' recent loss against the New Orleans Saints in a game where DeVito was sacked an alarming seven times. This defeat has left the Giants facing a crucial game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Day.
It remains uncertain whether the autograph signing event will be rescheduled or if the disagreement between Coniglio's Old Fashioned and Stellato will be resolved. For now, the pizzeria's decision stands, leaving fans disappointed and wondering if they will have another opportunity to meet the former NFL player.
As this story unfolds, it serves as a reminder that agreements and contracts play a crucial role in avoiding miscommunication and misunderstandings between parties involved in such events.
