In a shocking turn of events, military families who had booked hotel accommodations for the highly anticipated Army-Navy Game in Foxboro, Massachusetts, received cancellation notices from hotels that are being used to house migrants. This has sparked outrage among veterans and citizens, who feel that their priorities are being neglected in favor of accommodating illegal immigrants.
Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, wasted no time demanding action from President Biden regarding border security. In a letter addressing the President, Ernst directly linked the cancellations to the administration's decision to transfer illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities at the expense of taxpayers. She expressed her concerns about nearly eight million illegal immigrants entering the country and how this has adversely affected the ability of veterans and future servicemembers and their families to attend the Army-Navy Game.
The state of Massachusetts, with its "right to shelter" law aimed at ensuring housing for migrants and homeless families, has further exacerbated the situation. It is reported that hotels being used by the state to accommodate migrants have canceled reservations made by military families, leaving them without a place to stay for the game.
Mark Mansbach, owner of New Jersey-based Hillsdale Travel and a dedicated provider of accommodations and discounts for military members and their families, expressed his shock at the unprecedented cancellation of 60 combined rooms for the Army-Navy Game. Mansbach, whose father served in the military, emphasized the significance of the game as a recruitment mechanism and an opportunity to honor and showcase America's finest servicemembers.
Forty to fifty military families who lost their accommodations sought alternative options, even considering Boston despite the higher costs. This unexpected turn of events has left these families urgently searching for any available lodging to ensure they can attend the game.
Senator Ernst, in her letter to President Biden, emphasized the unacceptable nature of displacing veterans and military families due to the administration's failure to secure the southern border. She highlighted the importance of the Army-Navy Game as a chance to honor both current and future servicemembers and called for immediate action to address the border crisis.
The situation in Massachusetts is not isolated, as other states are also struggling with similar challenges of accommodating migrants, leaving citizens and veterans feeling neglected. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey had previously announced expanded legal services for illegal migrants living in emergency shelters, which has further strained resources and led to disruptions for military families.
Republican lawmakers, including Senator Ernst, have been advocating for tighter border security and higher standards for asylum seekers. They have sought to include these policy changes in President Biden's national security supplemental request for aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. However, sources familiar with the negotiations reveal that Democrat lawmakers are not inclined to consider such policy changes.
The Fox News Digital team reached out to the White House for comment on the situation but has not received a response at the time of writing.
This incident has once again highlighted the pressing need for effective border security measures and for prioritizing the needs of American citizens and military families. As the Army-Navy Game draws nearer, many are left hoping for a resolution that allows these families to attend the game without further disruption.
