Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic tragically passed away from a heart attack during a team dinner on Tuesday night, the organization has confirmed. The news has devastated the Warriors community and left his family, friends, and colleagues in mourning.
Head coach Steve Kerr expressed his shock and sadness, stating, "We are absolutely devastated by Dejan's sudden passing. This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him."
Milojevic, 46, was rushed to the hospital in Salt Lake City on Tuesday and sadly succumbed to his condition on Wednesday morning. As a result, the Warriors' scheduled game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night has been postponed.
Prior to joining the Warriors in 2021, Milojevic had an outstanding basketball career. He was a star for the Serbian national team during the '90s and 2000s, as well as for various European clubs. The Warriors revealed that Milojevic was awarded the Adriatic League MVP three times during his playing career. He proudly represented Serbian clubs such as Beovuk, FMP, and Partizan.
Transitioning into coaching after his retirement, Milojevic coached Mega Basket from 2012 to 2020, and successfully led the team to victory in the Serbian Cup in 2016. Notably, he had the opportunity to work with Nikola Jokic, who later became a prominent NBA player and won two league MVP awards with the Denver Nuggets.
In 2022, Milojevic achieved another milestone as he won a championship with the Golden State Warriors. His dedication and positive spirit made him a beloved figure within the organization and the basketball community.
