In the lead-up to their highly anticipated clash with Georgia Tech, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart provided his final updates on the team's preparations. Meanwhile, renowned sports analyst Paul Finebaum expressed his belief that even a potential loss to Alabama in the SEC title game should not knock the Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff (CFP).

The race for a spot in the CFP in 2023 has been exceptionally tight, but Finebaum maintains that Georgia's consistent performance throughout the season and their remarkable winning streak of 29 games should secure them a position in the Top 4, regardless of the SEC title game outcome in two weeks.

Highlighting Georgia's historical achievements, Finebaum stated, "We're talking about Georgia. They haven't lost in forever. They will win Saturday night against Georgia Tech, marking their 29th straight victory. This unparalleled accomplishment has never happened before in the SEC, and it's a rarity in the history of college football. You might have to go all the way back to Bud Wilkinson in the fifties to find a point of reference. This is a dynasty we're witnessing. Georgia is still the best team this year."

Finebaum's perspective may not be universally agreed upon, as some teams, locked in contention for playoff spots, may have reservations about Georgia's potential inclusion. Yet, it is challenging to argue against his assertions. While Georgia's schedule may have leaned towards the softer side in 2023, they are back-to-back undefeated national champions, commanding respect and recognition.

The committee tasked with selecting the playoff teams seems to concur with Finebaum's sentiments. Boo Corrigan, chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee, explained why Georgia has retained their top position in the CFP rankings for the second consecutive week.

Following an impressive 38-10 road victory over Tennessee, where Georgia displayed their dominance in a hostile environment, Corrigan emphasized the importance of the Bulldogs' performance in securing their top spot. "We're sitting on six total undefeated teams, five in the top five. I think it's a pretty unique time for us," stated Corrigan. "To see Georgia score on six of their first eight possessions was incredibly impressive. It was incredibly impressive... they're the team that we believe is the best team in the country right now."

With Georgia's back-to-back wins against ranked opponents and their ability to excel in challenging circumstances, it appears highly unlikely that the committee would exclude the Bulldogs from the playoff race, regardless of the outcome against Alabama in the SEC title game.

As the regular season approaches its climax, the college football world eagerly awaits the Georgia Bulldogs' performance against in-state rivals Georgia Tech. Whether they secure another victory or suffer a defeat, it seems evident that Georgia's season-long accomplishments and their stature as defending champions have positioned them as strong contenders for a coveted spot in the College Football Playoff.
