Atlanta - Following the end of their 29-game winning streak, Georgia coach Kirby Smart has challenged the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee to consider the undeniable dominance displayed by his No. 1 Bulldogs. Despite their 27-24 loss to No. 8 Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game, Smart reminded committee members that no top-ranked team has fallen out of the playoff by losing a conference championship game in the CFP era.

With the CFP committee set to announce the four-team playoff field on Sunday, Smart emphasized the importance of watching the game and consulting NFL talent evaluators and scouts when determining the best teams. "When you talk about the four best teams, watch the game," Smart said. "It's about the best teams."

The Bulldogs' quarterback, Carson Beck, admitted that it will be a challenge to watch the committee's decision, acknowledging that the team's destiny is now out of their control. However, Beck expressed pride in his teammates, highlighting their hard-fought season and dominance throughout. "We fought hard enough throughout the season. We showed that we were really a dominant team," he said.

Beck completed 21 of 29 passes for 243 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the championship game. Although the Bulldogs started strong with a quick touchdown drive on their first possession, they were unable to maintain their momentum throughout the rest of the first half.

In an attempt to influence the playoff committee, Smart revealed that star tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Ladd McConkey had been battling ankle injuries for the past two weeks but returned to play against Alabama. Smart praised his team's resilience and competitiveness, stating, "This team is really special in terms of how they play and how they compete. And they've been through a lot."

Smart also mentioned a conversation with CFP executive director Bill Hancock, who emphasized that the playoff selection is based on the best four teams. Smart firmly believes that the Bulldogs deserve a spot among the top four teams, considering their talent and balance. "If you go tell me somebody sitting in that committee room doesn't think that Georgia team is one of the best four teams, I don't know if they're in the right profession because it's a really good football team," Smart asserted.

As the anticipation builds for the announcement of the playoff field, it remains to be seen if the Bulldogs' impressive season and strength as a team will outweigh their conference championship loss in the eyes of the CFP committee.
