Former UConn men's basketball player, Akok Akok, is in stable condition after collapsing on the court during a game at West Virginia University on Friday night.

Akok, who currently plays for West Virginia, collapsed while walking off the floor with his teammates during a stoppage in play in the second half of their preseason game against George Mason. He appeared disoriented as he tried to get up, prompting medical personnel to rush out and provide immediate care. Akok was later placed on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Following the game, West Virginia interim coach Josh Eilert provided an update on Akok's condition, stating, "Found out good news, he's stable, he's responsive... He's in a good place right now, they're probably going to be holding him overnight, doing a lot of testing."

Despite being in the hospital, Akok managed to send text messages to his teammates, congratulating them on their come-from-behind victory in the game, which was played to benefit a local children's hospital. Coach Eilert expressed his admiration for Akok, describing him as a "good kid and a great teammate."

Akok, a 6-foot-10 forward, originally from Manchester, New Hampshire, was a highly regarded player during his time at UConn. He suffered a setback when he ruptured his Achilles tendon in February 2020, which affected his performance in subsequent seasons. After transferring to Georgetown, where he played last season, he made the decision to transfer again in August and joined the West Virginia Mountaineers to play out his remaining eligibility.

The incident has raised concerns about Akok's well-being and the future of his basketball career, but for now, the focus remains on his recovery and getting back to full health. The entire basketball community, including his former teammates, coaches, and fans, is sending their thoughts and well-wishes to Akok during this time.

As more updates on Akok's condition become available, his supporters eagerly await news of his progress and hope to see him return to the court once he makes a full recovery.
