Former NFL running back Derrick Ward, a member of the New York Giants Super Bowl-winning team, was arrested on Monday in Los Angeles for multiple alleged robberies, according to TMZ. The 43-year-old L.A. native was accused of robbing several businesses, including gas stations.

Ward, who played for the Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans during his eight-year NFL career, reportedly did not use a gun in the alleged robberies. However, police stated that the 6-foot, 230-pound former athlete used force and fear to take money from the businesses.

As of Tuesday, Ward remains in police custody, with bail set at $250,000. His arrest has shocked fans and former teammates alike, as he was an integral part of the Giants' Super Bowl-winning team that defeated the undefeated New England Patriots in the 2007-08 season. Ward was known for his contributions to the team's powerful backfield, which was dubbed "Earth, Wind and Fire" alongside Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.

Ward's NFL career had its ups and downs. Unfortunately, he missed the Super Bowl in 2008 due to a fractured left fibula, which ended his season in Week 13. Despite this setback, Ward bounced back the following year and achieved a career-high of 1,023 rushing yards with an NFL-best 5.6 yards per attempt. This impressive performance led to him signing a lucrative four-year, $17 million deal with the Buccaneers in 2009.

Throughout his career, Ward appeared in 93 games, rushing for a total of 2,628 yards on 551 attempts and scoring 12 touchdowns. His talent and contributions on the field earned him recognition and respect among fans and peers alike.

Prior to his professional football career, Ward was selected by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft but was released before the start of the season. He attended Fresno State and Ottawa University in Kansas before declaring for the NFL.

The arrest of Derrick Ward has sent shockwaves through the NFL community, as his alleged involvement in multiple robberies has tarnished his once prestigious reputation. As the legal proceedings unfold, fans and former teammates can only hope for a resolution and clarity regarding the charges brought against him.
