In a shocking turn of events, the undefeated Florida State Seminoles have been left out of the College Football Playoff, becoming the first unbeaten Power 5 conference winner to ever miss out on a national title opportunity. The decision has left head coach Mike Norvell and the entire Seminoles community disgusted and infuriated with the committee's selection process.

Coach Norvell expressed his frustration, stating, "I am disgusted and infuriated with the committee's decision today to have what was earned on the field taken away because a small group of people decided they knew better than the results of the games. What happened today goes against everything that is true and right in college football."

The Seminoles, boasting a flawless 13-0 record and the title of ACC champions, believed they had done enough to secure a playoff spot. The team had even played and won two Power 5 non-conference games away from home. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips echoed Norvell's sentiments, stating, "It's unfathomable."

Unfortunately for Florida State, a string of untimely injuries at the quarterback position seemed to be a significant factor in the committee's decision. Starting quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending leg injury in mid-November, and backup Tate Rodemaker was sidelined with a concussion. This forced coach Norvell to turn to freshman Brock Glenn in the ACC title game, where the Seminoles' defense led them to victory against Louisville.

The committee's focus on the team's potential competitiveness without a key quarterback spurred strong reactions. FSU athletic director Michael Alford stated, "The argument of whether a team is the 'most deserving OR best' is a false equivalence. It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant and significantly damages the legitimacy of the College Football Playoff."

The Seminoles, ranked fifth, will now face the two-time defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, in the Orange Bowl as the No. 5 seed. This matchup has only intensified the debate surrounding the selection process and raised questions about whether the Committee's own guidelines were followed.

The exclusion of Florida State from the playoff has left many questioning the validity of the current system. CFP selection committee chairman Boo Corrigan defended the decision, emphasizing the team's different dynamic without their star quarterback. However, the Seminoles' impressive resilience and ability to win despite the injury setbacks were not taken into account.

Despite the disappointment, Norvell expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments, stating, "I'm hurting for our players who have displayed a tremendous amount of resilience and response this season. A team that overcame tremendous adversity and found a way to win doing whatever it took on the field was cheated today. It's a sad day for college football."

The Georgia Bulldogs, who had an impressive 29-game winning streak, also faced disappointment as they lost to Alabama in the SEC title game, resulting in their exclusion from the playoff. The SEC champion has never been left out of the College Football Playoff, keeping Alabama's streak alive as they secure their eighth appearance.

As the debate rages on, the exclusion of an undefeated Power 5 conference champion has drawn widespread criticism, with many believing that the committee's decision has damaged the credibility and fairness of the College Football Playoff. The legacy of this contentious selection process will undoubtedly be felt for seasons to come.
