English Racing's heavily modified 1994 Acura Integra GS-R, affectionately nicknamed "Gringotegra," has made waves in the automotive world by setting a new world record. Equipped with a spunky 1.8-liter VTEC engine, originally producing 142 horsepower and 137 pound-feet of torque, this Integra has undergone extensive modifications courtesy of Myles Kerr, owner of English Racing.
The remarkable transformation of the Gringotegra began in 2006 when Kerr purchased the car. Over the years, countless hours of work have been poured into this high-performance machine, resulting in a mind-boggling output of 1,500 horsepower. Its powerful engine, which operates on methanol, delivers this immense power to all four wheels, as Kerr successfully transformed the car into an all-wheel-drive system two years ago.
This Integra showcases its incredible performance on no-prep tracks, excelling in the half-mile races. With its impressive top speed, Kerr can now hit an astonishing 216 mph in the half-mile, as well as reach 195 mph in a blazing 7.715 seconds in the quarter-mile. The Integra's new world record was set when it achieved a remarkable speed of 213.9 mph, making it the fastest front-wheel-drive car to achieve such a feat.
Despite its incredible power, the Gringotegra remains street-legal and serves as Kerr's daily driver. In fact, he even drives it to the grocery store on a regular basis, proving that this Integra is not just a racetrack princess. The car's versatility was highlighted when Kerr competed in the Stick Shift class at the TX2K23 drag race held at Houston Raceway, winning an impressive $10,000 prize.
A recent video from Top Gear BBC showcased the Gringotegra's exceptional track abilities. The car's deafening roar and incredible speed left the hosts in awe. Kerr's control is afforded by a two-stage clutch system, allowing him to harness the immense power efficiently. Despite the perception of tire-roasting speed, the car is precisely tuned to avoid that outcome, showcasing the expertise and attention to detail put into its construction.
Kerr's journey with the Gringotegra began modestly, with a desire for just 280 horsepower at the wheels. However, his thirst for more power soon took hold, leading to a series of upgrades and experiments, constantly pushing the limits of the engine, transmissions, axles, and differentials. It was not until the car's first half-mile event and the TX2K race that Kerr decided to elevate the car to an even higher level.
Remarkably, the Gringotegra's engine currently revs up to an astounding 11,000 RPM, a testament to Honda's renowned durability. Despite its impressive performance, Kerr fully acknowledges the likelihood of the engine eventually reaching its limits, given the extraordinary power it packs.
English Racing, a performance workshop dedicated to developing high-performance custom builds and breaking world records, takes immense pride in their creation, the Gringotegra. Not only is it a record-setting speed demon, but it also showcases the level of engineering and dedication that went into transforming a humble Acura Integra GS-R into a force to be reckoned with.
As Kerr continues to test the limits of his creation, constantly pushing the boundaries of power and performance, the Gringotegra remains a blazing testament to the possibilities of automotive customization and the pursuit of speed.
