In the latest update of the college basketball bracket, Duke finds themselves slipping down to a No. 10 seed after a slow start to the season. Previously touted as a No. 1 seed in the preseason bracket, the Blue Devils have only managed to secure one victory away from home, which came at a neutral site against Michigan State. However, losses at Arkansas and Georgia Tech have tarnished their record. Looking to turn their fortunes around, Duke faces a formidable challenge next week when they take on No. 2 seed Baylor.

Memphis, on the other hand, has made a surprising rise in the bracket, earning a solid No. 4 seed. Despite playing numerous games away from home, the Tigers have showcased their prowess. Their recent triumph over Texas A&M adds to their impressive performances. With only two home games under their belt, they have navigated a challenging schedule with commendable results.

Michigan State, a notable omission in the bracket, has failed to live up to expectations this season. Initially predicted as a No. 4 seed in the preseason bracket, the Spartans have struggled, obtaining only four wins out of nine games. Their season began on a sour note with a disheartening home loss to James Madison, and they have been unable to bounce back since.

The Big Ten conference as a whole has faced a rough start this season. While Purdue, a No. 1 seed, along with Illinois and Wisconsin have performed well, the overall representation for the conference in the bracket is lower than usual. Only five teams from the Big Ten have secured a spot, which is below expectations. Northwestern, in particular, narrowly avoided an even worse predicament after a surprising home loss to Chicago State. Their victory against Purdue is their saving grace. Having yet to play a road game, Northwestern's lack of away performance has also affected their ranking.

Regular bracket updates will commence in early January, coinciding with the start of conference play. It is during this time that the true strength of these teams will be revealed.
