Doc Rivers, the newly appointed head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, has expressed his surprise at being selected to coach the All-Star Game with just one win under his belt. Typically, coaches of teams with the best records in each conference are chosen for this prestigious opportunity. However, due to the limitations and prior eligibility of other coaches, Rivers found himself in the unexpected position.

The Milwaukee Bucks secured their second-best record in the Eastern Conference with a win on Saturday night, improving their season record to 33-16. This placed them in contention for the All-Star Game coaching role, as the Boston Celtics currently hold the top seed at 37-12. However, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, who led the All-Star Game last year, is ineligible for selection once again.

Replacing Adrian Griffin, who achieved a standout record of 30-13 before being fired, Rivers stepped in three games ago to take charge. Interim head coach Joe Prunty held the position for two games in the interim. Rivers expressed his concerns and disbelief at being chosen for the All-Star Game after just one win.

"That is ridiculously bad," Rivers commented. "Adrian's going to get some money, that's for sure. And a ring. It's one of these quirky things. I think there should be a rule somehow that someone else does it other than me."

Even Rivers' new players were taken aback by the news. Giannis Antetokounmpo, upon hearing about Rivers coaching the game, stated, "He's going to coach the game? That's pretty funny." Damian Lillard also remarked, "It definitely wasn't a conversation in the locker room."

While the decision surprised many, Antetokounmpo expressed his happiness for the team's assistant coaches, who will also have the chance to coach in the All-Star Game. "I'm definitely happy for them," he said. "It's a lot of hard work that paid off."

Rivers had been working as an ESPN analyst for most of the season before joining the Bucks as head coach. He took over the role from Griffin, who was in his first season as a head coach after replacing Mike Budenholzer. Despite a solid start to the year, the Bucks decided to make a change and entrusted Rivers, who had previously coached the Philadelphia 76ers for three years. Rivers also has coaching experience with the Boston Celtics, where he led them to an NBA title in the 2007-2008 season, as well as with the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic.

In a light-hearted tone, Rivers joked about potentially skipping the All-Star Game and sending his assistants instead. "Maybe I'll send my staff, and I'll go on vacation," he playfully suggested. "I'm going to run that by [NBA commissioner] Adam Silver. I think Adam's a good man. I think he'll understand."

The All-Star Game is set to take place on a date yet to be announced, providing an opportunity for Rivers and his assistant coaches to showcase their skills on the big stage despite the unconventional circumstances surrounding his selection.
