Detroit Lions Make Key Roster Moves for Playoffs

In preparation for their upcoming Divisional round playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Detroit Lions have made some important roster decisions. Fullback Jason Cabinda and defensive lineman Tyson Alualu have been elevated, while Julian Okwara has been signed back to the practice squad.
This move to elevate Cabinda and Alualu has become a common strategy for the Lions as they seek to add experienced depth to their roster. Alualu, in particular, has been elevated in the last three games, including the Wild Card round. Although officially listed as a non-starter, Alualu has been given starter-level snaps based on the team's game plan. While his performance in the Wild Card round was not outstanding, his veteran presence in the middle of the Lions' young interior defensive line provides a sense of security.
Cabinda, on the other hand, has been a consistent contributor on special teams, playing a crucial role in various phases of the game such as kick and punt returns, coverage, as well as field goal and extra point attempts. Despite limited involvement on offense, Cabinda's versatility makes him a valuable asset, especially after the loss of tight end James Mitchell to injured reserve.
It's important to note that practice squad players typically have a limit of three elevations during the regular season. However, this rule does not apply during the postseason, allowing Cabinda and Alualu to remain as viable options for game day elevations as long as the Lions continue their playoff journey.
With the Divisional round rapidly approaching, the Lions are strategizing and making the necessary moves to bolster their roster and increase their chances of success against the tough competition in the playoffs.
