In a recent development, the Denver Nuggets announced that their forward, Aaron Gordon, will be out for an undisclosed period of time due to an unfortunate incident involving a dog on Christmas Day. The team issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming that Gordon suffered lacerations to his face and hand after being bitten by a dog.
According to sources, Gordon underwent successful medical treatment and is currently in good condition. The injuries required 21 stitches to heal, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
While the timeframe for Gordon's absence remains unclear, Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports suggested that it is not expected to be a prolonged one. He estimated that Gordon would likely miss a couple of weeks, with the Nuggets allowing him to take as long as he needs to recover. The biting incident occurred after Denver's victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Gordon's absence comes as a blow to the Nuggets, as he has been a key player on both ends of the court for head coach Michael Malone. The 28-year-old has been shooting an impressive 52.5 percent from the field, and he currently ranks third on the team in rebounds with 6.9 per game. Gordon also contributes defensively, averaging 1.0 steal per game and adding to the team's overall defensive prowess. In terms of scoring, he sits fourth on the team with an average of 13.6 points per game.
This is not the first time Gordon has dealt with injuries this season. He previously missed four consecutive games from late November to early December due to a heel injury. However, he returned to the lineup on December 2 and had played in 12 consecutive games before the dog bite incident occurred.
In Gordon's absence, the Nuggets will look to adjust their lineup and find a suitable replacement. During his previous injury, Justin Holiday stepped into the starting lineup and performed well, averaging 10.8 points per game while shooting an impressive 50.0 percent from three-point range. Holiday also contributed 3.3 assists per game during his four starts.
As the Denver Nuggets strive to maintain their winning momentum, the team faces the challenge of compensating for Gordon's absence. Fans and teammates alike eagerly anticipate his return to the court and wish him a speedy recovery.
