In a press conference ahead of Real Madrid's LaLiga derby with Atlético Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti dismissed comments made by Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández and president Joan Laporta regarding Real Madrid's criticism of LaLiga referees. Ancelotti made it clear that he would not stoop to their level and expressed his respect for Spanish football.

The controversy began with Real Madrid TV regularly airing videos showcasing refereeing mistakes before and after games this season. Meanwhile, Barcelona's relationship with officials has been under investigation for payments made to a company connected to a former vice-president of Spain's refereeing body.

During an interview with Catalan radio station RAC1, Laporta criticized Real Madrid's involvement in the ongoing investigation and labeled the videos as "shameful." He called on the Spanish football federation to intervene in the matter. Xavi later supported Laporta's stance, stating that the videos "influence the competition completely" and criticizing the referees.

When questioned about these remarks, Ancelotti maintained his professionalism and respect for the sport. He stated, "I don't want to sink to that level," emphasizing that it was not befitting for professionals. Ancelotti declined to comment further, reiterating his refusal to engage in the war of words.

Real Madrid currently sits at the top of LaLiga with 57 points, 10 points clear of Atlético Madrid, who are in third place. The team's recent 2-0 victory against Getafe has boosted their confidence ahead of Sunday's derby.

Ancelotti also provided an update on defender Antonio Rüdiger's injury, stating that he has shown significant improvement and will be included in the squad. However, Ancelotti will decide on the defender's availability closer to match day.

Sunday's derby will mark the fourth meeting between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid this season. The most recent encounter saw Atlético emerge victorious with a 4-2 win after extra time in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on January 18. Ancelotti praised Atlético coach Diego Simeone, acknowledging him as one of the toughest opponents he has faced due to his exceptional management and tactical organization.

As the anticipation grows for the exciting derby clash, Ancelotti remains focused on maintaining Real Madrid's impressive lead in LaLiga and handling the situation with professionalism and respect.
