BOSTON - The Boston Bruins are preparing for their first Eastern Conference opponent of the season as they gear up to face the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden in an Original Six matchup. In addition, the Bruins will be celebrating The Early Years (1924-59) with their first Centennial Era Night.

After a disappointing loss against the Anaheim Ducks, in which they surrendered a two-goal lead in the final minutes, the Bruins are focused on bouncing back and returning to their winning ways. Charlie Coyle expressed the team's readiness and excitement for the challenge ahead, emphasizing the need to be prepared to face a strong Detroit team.

To strengthen their lineup, the Bruins have made a roster move, placing Milan Lucic on long-term injured reserve and recalling Oskar Steen from the Providence Bruins. Lucic is expected to miss a couple of weeks at minimum, opening up an opportunity for Steen to make his presence felt.

Steen, who has displayed impressive form in the AHL with five points in five games (three goals, two assists), had a strong showing in training camp and was one of the final cuts from the Bruins' roster. Coach Jim Montgomery praised Steen's performance and impact in Providence, highlighting his ability to play fast, go to hard areas, and his overall strength on the ice.

Steen is no stranger to the Boston Bruins, having played 26 games with the team over the past three seasons. With his experience, Steen is confident in his ability to adjust smoothly and contribute effectively this time around.

The Bruins' roster for Saturday night's game against the Red Wings is still uncertain, with some players labeled as questionable. Montgomery did not disclose where Steen will slot into the lineup, but if all players are available, Jesper Boqvist could potentially be scratched.

The Red Wings, who have had a strong start to the season with a 5-2-1 record, pose a formidable challenge for the Bruins. Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat have formed a dynamic duo for Detroit, accounting for a combined 28 points in eight games. Montgomery highlighted the need for the Bruins to contain the Red Wings' offensive prowess and focus on their own identity of controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating opportunities at the net.

In goal for the Bruins, Jeremy Swayman will get the start, hoping to provide stability and secure a victory for his team.

As the Bruins aim to bounce back and secure a win against the Red Wings, the NHL's centennial celebrations continue with The Early Years being commemorated at TD Garden. The clash between these Original Six teams promises to be an exciting encounter, and both teams will be eager to come out on top in this historic rivalry.

The puck will drop at 7 p.m. ET and the game can be watched on NESN, with coverage also provided by 98.5 The Sports Hub.
