Boston Bruins Make Roster Moves, McAvoy and Zacha Placed on Injured Reserve

Boston Bruins General Manager, Don Sweeney, announced today, December 14, several roster transactions to address the team's injury concerns. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Pavel Zacha have been placed on injured reserve, while forward Patrick Brown has been recalled from the Providence Bruins. Additionally, defenseman Parker Wotherspoon has been called up on an emergency basis.
McAvoy, aged 25, has played in 21 games this season for Boston, contributing three goals and 14 assists, totaling 17 points. The Long Beach, New York native has an impressive NHL career with a stint of 401 games, scoring 44 goals and providing 203 assists for a total of 247 points. McAvoy was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round (14th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Zacha, aged 26, has appeared in 26 games this season, netting eight goals and 11 assists for a total of 19 points. The Czech forward, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 207 pounds, has played a combined 494 games in the NHL for both Boston and the New Jersey Devils, accumulating 98 goals and 157 assists, bringing his career points tally to 255. Zacha was originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the first round (6th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
To offset the absence of McAvoy and Zacha, the Bruins have recalled forward Patrick Brown from the Providence Bruins. The 31-year-old has played eight games this season for Boston, contributing one assist. Brown has also appeared in six games for Providence, recording one goal and one assist for a total of two points. Throughout his NHL career, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native has played for various teams, including Carolina, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Vegas, and Boston, accumulating 25 points from 10 goals and 15 assists. Brown was originally signed as a free agent by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014.
Furthermore, defenseman Parker Wotherspoon has been recalled by Boston on an emergency basis. The 26-year-old blueliner has played three games for the Bruins this season, providing one assist. Wotherspoon has also played 19 games for Providence, tallying one goal and four assists, resulting in five points. During his NHL career, the Surrey, British Columbia native has played 15 games, all with the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders, while contributing two assists. Wotherspoon was originally chosen by the New York Islanders in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
