Chicago Blackhawks forward Taylor Hall will be sidelined week-to-week due to a left shoulder injury, as confirmed by coach Luke Richardson. Hall initially suffered the injury after a hit from Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo on October 12th.
Unfortunately, Hall reaggravated the shoulder injury during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on October 21st, and as a result, was unable to participate in Monday's practice. The Blackhawks had initially expected him to miss only a week, but his return to the lineup on October 16th proved short-lived.
Coach Richardson shared his thoughts on Hall's absence, stating, "He was great at the start of the year and then got banged up in Boston. A lot of character coming back in that Toronto game. We're going to miss that for sure, but that's an opportunity for other guys to see what he did and try to emulate that."
Hall's absence reshapes the top of the Blackhawks' lineup, where he had been playing alongside Connor Bedard, the organization's No. 1 draft pick. To fill the void, Tyler Johnson and Nick Foligno have been promoted to Bedard's line during practice. Johnson previously had experience playing with Bedard during preseason games, while Foligno had been playing with Corey Perry and Jason Dickinson since the beginning of the season.
Richardson also mentioned the possibility of Philipp Kurashev joining the top line in the future, but wants to gradually ease him back into the lineup after returning from injury. The Blackhawks have been hesitant to move Lukas Reichel to the wing with Bedard as they prefer to allow him more time to develop at center.
Drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2010, Hall spent six seasons with the team before playing for the New Jersey Devils for three and a half years. He has since had short stints with the Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres before rejuvenating his career with the Boston Bruins. During the 2020-2021 season, Hall recorded 20 goals and 41 assists in 81 games played, showcasing his resurgence as a player.
This season, the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Hall with the intention of pairing him with the talented young Bedard. Hall's overall career statistics stand at 827 games played, 264 goals, and 431 assists, making him a valuable asset to any team.
With Hall's absence, the Blackhawks will face the challenge of readjusting their top line. How Johnson and Foligno perform alongside Bedard will determine how the team copes with the injury setback. The Blackhawks will closely monitor Hall's progress and adjust his return timeline accordingly, hoping to have him back in action as soon as possible.
