In a move to solidify their goaltending position, the Chicago Blackhawks announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to a two-year contract extension with goaltender Petr Mrazek. The new deal will keep Mrazek in Chicago through the 2025-26 season, with a salary cap hit of $4.25 million.

Mrazek, who turns 32 on February 14th, has been a crucial presence between the pipes for the Blackhawks this season. With a record of 12-17-1, a save percentage of .907, and a goals-against average of 3.01, he has consistently displayed his athleticism and calm style of play that has contributed to his success in the league.

The extension comes as a testament to Mrazek's impact on the team, with Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson expressing excitement at having him back. Mrazek was acquired by Chicago in a trade with Toronto in July 2022 and made an immediate impact in his first season with the Blackhawks, posting a record of 10-22-3, a 3.66 goals-against average, and an .894 save percentage.

The contract extension for Mrazek is part of the Blackhawks' strategy to lock in key veteran players, as they continue their rebuilding process. Earlier this year, the team signed Nick Foligno to a two-year deal with a salary cap hit of $4.5 million, and forward Jason Dickinson received a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million. These signings could potentially lead to a quiet trade deadline for Chicago, as they already have a surplus of draft capital and prospects.

With plenty of cap space available, the Blackhawks could consider taking on a bad contract from a contending team in a trade, further solidifying their rebuild.

In his career spanning over 366 regular-season games, Mrazek has recorded 162 wins, 141 losses, and 35 shutouts. He has maintained a solid 2.78 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage throughout his tenure in the league.

The Blackhawks are hoping that Mrazek's continued presence in net will provide stability and contribute to their ongoing rebuilding efforts. With this contract extension, they have secured a reliable goaltender to lead their team for the next two seasons.
