In a monumental achievement for Alabama football, Dallas Turner has become their first consensus All-American of 2023. The talented edge rusher earned this prestigious honor by being named to his third first team of the year.

The Sporting News recently unveiled its highly anticipated All-America selections, with two standout Alabama players claiming spots on the first team. Turner, known for his exceptional skills as an edge rusher, was joined by cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. This recognition marked Turner's third first-team honor, a remarkable accomplishment that added to the long list of Alabama's 79 consensus All-Americans.

To achieve consensus All-American status, a player must secure a first-team position in the majority of the lists produced by esteemed organizations such as The Sporting News, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Walter Camp Football Foundation, and American Football Coaches Association. While the AFCA is yet to announce its selections, McKinstry has the opportunity to join Turner if he receives recognition from them. Unfortunately, Alabama's players missed out on unanimous All-American status as they were overlooked by the Walter Camp committee.

Turner has been a key contributor to Alabama's success this season, having been named a finalist for both the prestigious Bednarik Award and the SEC's defender of the year. His impressive statistics include 10 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. On the other hand, McKinstry showcased his exceptional talent by breaking up seven passes and registering 27 tackles. While he didn't record any interceptions, it speaks volumes about his skills that opposing offenses rarely challenged him. Both Turner and McKinstry are projected to become first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In addition to Turner and McKinstry, four other Alabama players were recognized for their outstanding performances. JC Latham, the offensive tackle, safety Caleb Downs, defensive back Terrion Arnold, and kicker Will Reichard were selected for The Sporting News' second team. Collectively, these players have played a pivotal role in Alabama's remarkable 11-game winning streak, SEC Championship victory, and their secure spot in the highly coveted College Football Playoff.

As the football season progresses, the achievements of these exceptional athletes continue to garner attention and cement Alabama's reputation as a powerhouse in college football. With their impressive talent and accomplishments, Alabama football's 2023 campaign looks poised for greatness.
