Timothée Chalamet's latest film venture, the fantasy musical "Wonka," has achieved a significant milestone at the box office, crossing the $150 million mark in global ticket sales.

Opening to an impressive $39 million in North America, "Wonka" debuted as the No. 1 film in the region. The movie witnessed a strong start internationally, collecting $43.2 million in its first weekend. Continuing its success, "Wonka" earned an additional $53.6 million overseas in its second week, resulting in a foreign total of $112.4 million and a worldwide box office accumulation of $151.4 million.

Produced by Warner Bros. at a cost of $125 million, excluding extensive global marketing expenses, "Wonka" has shown promising initial ticket sales for a musical that is not part of an established franchise. The film benefits from the brand recognition of Roald Dahl's renowned novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," along with the iconic 1971 film adaptation starring Gene Wilder and the 2005 reboot featuring Johnny Depp. Timothée Chalamet's star power, derived from his notable performances in blockbusters like "Dune" and independent films like "Call Me By Your Name" and "Lady Bird," has contributed to attracting audiences to "Wonka."

With positive reviews and enthusiastic audience scores, "Wonka" aims to maintain momentum as the busy holiday season approaches to justify its substantial budget. December is widely renowned as one of the most lucrative periods for the film industry, and "Wonka" will face competition from upcoming Christmastime releases such as Universal and Illumination's animated film "Migration," Warner's musical adaptation of "The Color Purple," and the sequel to DC Comics' "Aquaman," titled "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul King, known for his work on the "Paddington" films, "Wonka" also features an ensemble cast including Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, and Hugh Grant, who portrays an Oompa-Loompa. The storyline delves into the early life of the eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka, set long before the beloved character Charlie Bucket wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous and heavily guarded chocolate factory.

Meanwhile, another prequel film, Lionsgate's "Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," has reached a notable milestone at the box office, grossing $300 million globally. After five weeks in theaters, the dystopian action-adventure has amassed $145 million in North America and $155.3 million internationally, solidifying its success amongst audiences worldwide.
