Hollywood superstar Sean Penn proved once again that he is not only a talented actor but also a good Samaritan, as he lent a helping hand to a stranded entertainment reporter on his way back from the Palm Springs Film Festival. Variety's red carpet maven Marc Malkin found himself in a tight spot when his electric car unexpectedly ran out of battery.
According to sources, Malkin had his car towed to a charging station in Cabazon, California, where he was greeted with a surprising sight. On one side, he spotted Sean Penn charging his own vehicle, and on the other side was Mara Buxbaum, Penn's longtime publicist, also charging her car. The unexpected encounter took place after Penn had attended an awards brunch to honor Penélope Cruz for her exceptional performance in "Ferrari."
However, even with all three in need of a charge, Malkin's car was unable to power up. After contacting the charging company, Malkin learned that his car wouldn't charge if the battery was completely dead. Determined not to be stranded, Malkin came up with a risky plan.
Witnesses report that Malkin put his car in neutral and attempted to maneuver it to a nearby charger that might still work. It was at this moment that Mara Buxbaum approached him, offering assistance. As Malkin's disbelief turned into gratitude, he realized that Penn himself was behind his car, pushing it with Buxbaum's help.
Thanks to the joint efforts of Penn and Buxbaum, Malkin's car finally reached a working charging station, saving the day and allowing him to make it back in time for the Golden Globes pre-party. Malkin, who is known for his impeccable style, was undoubtedly relieved to have arrived looking fresh and ready to hit the red carpet.
The incident adds to Penn's reputation as a kind-hearted celebrity, willing to lend a hand to those in need. As for Malkin, he can now resume his hosting duties as the official digital red carpet pre-show co-host for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, alongside Angelique Jackson and Rachel Smith.
Penn's speech during the Palm Springs Film Festival showcased his admiration for Penélope Cruz and her versatile acting skills. He spoke highly of her ability to captivate audiences in various languages and expressed how her performances successfully conveyed emotions without needing subtitles.
As the Golden Globe Awards draw nearer, Penn's act of kindness serves as a reminder that even Hollywood icons are not exempt from encountering unexpected challenges. Yet, it's heartwarming to witness how a chance encounter and a helping hand turned a potentially stressful situation into a memorable and uplifting experience.
