Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, has left Windsor Castle for the first time since undergoing planned abdominal surgery in January. According to sources, the Princess will be spending time with her family at Anmer Hall, their home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
Joining Kate and her husband, Prince William, will be their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who are currently on a break from school. The Duchess, who left Windsor in good spirits, is said to be "recovering well" and looking forward to a change of scene, according to the Daily Mail.
The news of Kate's surgery came as a surprise, as she and Prince William kept it private from their closest family and advisers. Kensington Palace announced on January 17th that the surgery was successful and that Kate would need to remain hospitalized for 10 to 14 days. However, in a January 29th update, it was confirmed that Kate had been discharged and was "making good progress."
During her hospital stay, Kate was accompanied by her father-in-law, King Charles III, who was receiving treatment for a benign enlarged prostate at the same London Clinic. However, it was during the surgery that doctors made a startling discovery – the 75-year-old royal has been diagnosed with cancer. Buckingham Palace announced the news on Monday, but the type of cancer has not been disclosed.
King Charles' public obligations will be postponed as he focuses on his treatment, although the duration of his absence is unknown. As for Princess Kate, she is not expected to resume her regular royal duties until after Easter. However, a royal insider has mentioned that she has already started working "from her bed" at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate.
The Princess of Wales' family time at the Sandringham Estate will provide her with the opportunity to relax and recover, surrounded by her loved ones. It is hoped that Kate's continued progress will ensure a full and swift recovery, allowing her to return to her royal duties in due course.
In the meantime, fans and well-wishers will be eagerly awaiting updates on Kate's health and the progress of King Charles' treatment, as both the Duchess and King play significant roles in the British monarchy.
