Renowned director Doug Liman has announced his decision to boycott the premiere of the highly anticipated Road House remake, set to be released on Prime Video on March 21st. In an open letter published by Deadline, Liman expressed his disappointment with Amazon's handling of the film, citing a breach of promises made during the acquisition of MGM.

Liman, known for his work on films such as American Made and Edge of Tomorrow, highlighted Amazon's initial commitment to supporting cinemas and investing in theatrical releases after acquiring MGM. However, he claims that their actions with regards to Road House have contradicted these promises.

Originally signed on to direct a theatrical motion picture for MGM, Liman poured his creative efforts into making a great film. Despite delivering what he deemed to be a remarkable product, he alleges that Amazon, after taking over MGM, showed no interest in supporting cinemas.

Liman's frustration appears to stem from Amazon's decision to exclusively stream Road House on their Prime Video platform, rather than opting for a theatrical release. The director argues that this move goes against Amazon's earlier statement of being committed to cinemas and investing in big commercial films.

In his open letter, Liman expressed his disappointment at Amazon's use of Road House to "sell plumbing fixtures," emphasizing the stark contrast between the initial promises made and the subsequent decisions made by the company.

While liman's decision to boycott the premiere may be seen as a protest against the streaming giant's approach to film distribution, it remains to be seen whether this will have a significant impact on Amazon's strategy moving forward.

Road House, a highly anticipated remake of the 1989 cult classic, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, a former UFC fighter turned cooler who cleans up rowdy establishments. The remake also features talented actors like Sam Elliott and Jessica Williams, aiming to breathe new life into the beloved story.

As fans eagerly await the release of Road House on Prime Video, they are left wondering if Amazon will take heed of Liman's concerns and reconsider their approach to film distribution. In the meantime, Liman's decision not to attend the SXSW premiere has added an unexpected twist to the highly anticipated remake's journey.
