Actor Carrie Bernans Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident in New York

Carrie Bernans, known for her roles in "Black Panther" and "The Color Purple," sustained serious injuries after being struck by a driver who was allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run in New York on New Year's Day.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, when a driver crashed into an outdoor dining shed at the Chirp restaurant in Manhattan. Bernans, who is a 29-year-old actor and stunt performer, suffered multiple broken bones, fractures, and chipped teeth in the accident, according to her representative.
Bernans, who had recently given birth to her son, fortunately, was not with her child at the time of the crash. She is currently in stable condition but remains in a considerable amount of pain. Among the eight pedestrians injured in the incident, Bernans' injuries were reported to be the most severe.
The NYPD has reported that the accident took place during a foot chase after officers were informed about a physical assault involving a 44-year-old male driver and a 34-year-old female passenger in a black Mercedes. The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hospitalized in critical condition and is currently in police custody.
On Instagram, Bernans' mother, Patricia Lee, shared graphic images of her daughter's injuries and disclosed the harrowing details of the incident. She mentioned that Bernans was walking near a food stand with a friend when the fleeing vehicle crashed into multiple cars before hitting the stand. The impact rendered Bernans unconscious and trapped her under the structure.
As Bernans embarks on the path to recovery and a new beginning, her family has requested support from well-wishers, asking for thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. They expressed gratitude towards the first responders, police, strangers, friends, and family members who have provided assistance thus far.
