### Roman Polanski's Civil Lawsuit Over 1970s Sex Assault Allegation Set to Be Dismissed After Settlement
A civil lawsuit alleging that filmmaker Roman Polanski sexually assaulted a child in the 1970s is set to be dismissed following a recently reached settlement agreement between the parties. This case, separate from Polanski's renowned conviction for assaulting a 13-year-old girl, accused him of giving alcohol to and raping a child at his Benedict Canyon residence in 1973.
The suit had been on track for a trial in August of next year, but attorneys for both sides confirmed that a resolution had been achieved over the summer. "The case settled this summer to the parties' mutual satisfaction," stated Polanski's lawyer, Alexander Rufus-Isaacs. He refrained from providing further details about the settlement. Polanski, 91, had repeatedly denied the allegations mentioned in this case.
Gloria Allred, representing the plaintiff known as Jane Doe, also confirmed the settlement, noting, "A settlement of claims was agreed to by the parties."
This recent development recalls another investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department concerning a separate incident from 1975 in which Polanski was accused of molesting another girl. However, this case did not proceed to trial due to the statute of limitations expiring, as determined by the prosecutors at that time.
Despite living many years as a fugitive and bearing a significant conviction for child sexual abuse, Polanski has maintained a notable presence in the film industry, earning multiple accolades, including Oscars. His most recent directorial work is the 2023 film "The Palace."
