**Sarah Silverman Reveals Family Tragedy in Emotional Interview**
In a deeply personal revelation ahead of her new Netflix special "PostMortem," comedienne Sarah Silverman shared stunning details about her family's past. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Silverman disclosed that her grandfather was responsible for the death of her younger brother, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey died tragically at the tender age of three months while being cared for by his grandparents, Max and Rose, as Silverman and her parents, Beth Ann Halpin and Donald Silverman, were away on vacation. The official story at the time was that Jeffrey suffocated after slipping through a gap between the mattress and the bottom rail of his crib, a narrative that both her now-deceased parents firmly supported.
However, Silverman expressed her long-held doubts about this explanation in her 2010 memoir "The Bedwetter," noting that her parents, who eventually divorced, rarely agreed on any topic but were oddly united on this particular incident. The real truth came to light in a highly emotional moment after Silverman’s father attended five consecutive performances of the musical adaptation of "The Bedwetter" in 2022. Finally, after the last show, Donald Silverman admitted that Jeffrey had not died accidentally but had been shaken to death in a fit of rage by his grandfather, Max.
This revelation cast a grim light on the family’s history of abuse, with Silverman explaining that her grandfather had also beaten her father as a child, with her grandmother’s full knowledge and tacit approval. This disturbing familial pattern added a new layer of understanding to Silverman’s long-held suspicions.
Adding to the heartache, Silverman lamented that she never had the opportunity to discuss the truth with her mother, who had already passed away. Her father passed away in 2023, shortly after his second wife, Janice. Reflecting on her father’s life, Silverman recounted his belief that he was “the richest man in the world” because of his family.
Silverman, known for her work on "Saturday Night Live" and "The Sarah Silverman Program," continues to channel her pain and experiences into her art. Her latest special "PostMortem" is now available for streaming on Netflix, promising to be another raw and unfiltered look into her life and mind.
