**Roman Polanski Settles 1973 Rape Lawsuit Over Summer**
The film director Roman Polanski has reached an out-of-court settlement, bringing an end to the civil lawsuit alleging he sexually assaulted a teenage girl over fifty years ago. Both parties' lawyers announced this resolution on Wednesday, noting that the lawsuit has now been dismissed.
Roman Polanski, aged 91, faced accusations in a lawsuit filed in June 2023 in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. The lawsuit, which was initially scheduled for trial in August 2025, alleged that Polanski had assaulted a minor after giving her alcohol.
The accuser, identified as Jane Doe, claimed that she first met Polanski at a party in 1973 when she was still underage. The lawsuit detailed that during a subsequent visit to his home in Benedict Canyon, Polanski provided her with two shots of tequila. Later, after dining out in Los Angeles, where she consumed more alcohol and became ill, they returned to his house, where the assault allegedly took place.
Polanski's lawyer, Alexander Rufus-Isaacs, confirmed that the case was settled over the summer but did not reveal any specifics regarding the terms of the settlement. Similarly, Gloria Allred, representing Jane Doe, acknowledged the settlement in a brief statement, mentioning that it was mutually satisfactory for both parties.
Polanski had denied the allegations when the lawsuit was initially filed. Now, with the settlement reached, the case will not proceed to trial, concluding an issue that has lingered for decades.
