Rob Lowe, star and executive producer of 9-1-1: Lone Star, has expressed uncertainty about the show's future beyond its upcoming fifth season. While Fox has yet to make a final decision, Lowe doesn't sound optimistic about the renewal odds. Despite this, he is immensely proud of what the 9-1-1 spinoff has achieved.

Lowe revealed in an interview with Variety that the cast approached the fifth season with the belief that it would be the show's last. Keeping this in mind, they wanted to showcase what is still possible in network television if there is a demand for it. Lowe described the end of the show as the conclusion of an era of a certain type of show they once had the opportunity to create.

One of Lowe's greatest sources of pride in 9-1-1: Lone Star is the scope and scale of the stories they were able to tell on a weekly basis. Their goal was to highlight the value of shows like theirs, and Lowe believes they successfully made their case.

The rumor mill has been abuzz since June regarding the potential final season of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Various members of the cast and crew have posted cryptic messages on social media, hinting that they don't expect to return for a Season 6. Deadline reports that the cast's options were only extended until the production of Season 5 wrapped in July. Fox is unlikely to make a decision about a potential extension until later.

Brian Michael Smith, who plays firefighter Paul Strickland on the show, commented on the rumors surrounding a final season. He mentioned that the network wants to wait and see how the numbers turn out before making a decision. Smith expressed hope that fans will continue to show the same amount of love and support they have in the first four seasons.

The fifth season of 9-1-1: Lone Star is set to premiere on Monday, Sept. 23 on Fox at 8/7c. While uncertainty surrounds the show's future, fans will have the opportunity to enjoy what could potentially be the final installment. As viewers eagerly wait to see how the numbers play out, the fate of 9-1-1: Lone Star hangs in the balance.
