Netflix Planning a Sequel Series for "One Tree Hill" with Original Stars as Executive Producers
Netflix is reportedly in the early stages of developing a sequel series for the beloved drama "One Tree Hill". According to sources, stars Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles are set to serve as executive producers for the reboot. Daneel Ackles will produce under her Chaos Machine banner alongside her husband, Jensen Ackles. The writing and executive producing duties will be handled by Becky Hartman-Edwards, known for her work on "Firefly Lane" and "Parenthood". Warner Bros. Television, the original series' producer, will also be on board to produce the follow-up.
The original "One Tree Hill" captivated audiences for nine seasons, first on The WB and later on The CW. The show centered around the lives of half-brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan (James Lafferty) in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. As their love for basketball brought them together, the series delved into themes of friendship, romance, and family drama.
Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles, who played Brooke Davis, Peyton Sawyer, and Rachel Gatina respectively, are expected to reprise their iconic roles in the new series. While no official confirmation has been given yet, negotiations are underway for Ackles' return. As for the other original series stars, it remains uncertain if they will also participate in the sequel.
"One Tree Hill" was not only successful on screen but also fostered a strong bond among its cast members. Bush, Burton, and Lenz previously co-hosted the "One Tree Hill" rewatch podcast called "Drama Queens," where they revisited the show's episodes and shared behind-the-scenes stories. Actress Sophia Bush, however, stepped away from the podcast after Season 6 due to her character's departure from the show. Actor Robert Buckley, who joined the series in Season 7, became the third host.
It's important to note that the original creator of "One Tree Hill," Mark Schwahn, will not be involved in the sequel. In 2017, Schwahn faced serious allegations of assault and harassment from Burton and several other cast and crew members. The allegations were discussed openly by the group on their podcast, shedding light on the alleged abuse that took place during their time on set.
Fans of "One Tree Hill" can now look forward to this highly anticipated sequel series, which promises to bring back the nostalgic charm and compelling storytelling of the original. As production gears up, viewers can hope for updates on potential casting choices and an official release date in the near future.
