### Disney's ABC News and Local Stations Affected by Layoffs Amid Restructuring Efforts

In the latest wave of restructuring at Disney, layoffs have hit ABC News and the ABC stations group. Around 75 staff members, divided evenly between the national news organization and the local TV stations, are set to be let go, according to information obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. Despite these job cuts, programming will remain unaffected, with no entire teams facing elimination. The company’s goal with these changes is to become "sustainable, efficient and future-forward," said an insider.

ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic and ABC Stations Chief Chad Matthews informed their teams about the restructuring through memos on Wednesday. Karamehmedovic acknowledged the broader context of industry-wide changes, explaining that the adjustments are essential for evolving with the new media landscape. "As you know, this has been happening across the broader company and the industry at large in recent weeks and months," he wrote. For ABC News, the focus remains on cultivating a team that can adapt to new realities while continuing to serve its audience.

Emphasizing the necessity of the decisions, Karamehmedovic added, "As we look to the future and refining a team that is not only capable of excellence in reporting and delivering the highest quality content but is also streamlined and sustainable, we must occasionally make some tough decisions. Unfortunately, today is one of those days."

Matthews, in his note, highlighted the industry's transformative phase, underscoring that every major media company is facing similar pressures. "It's no secret that our industry is undergoing a transformation unlike any other, and we're seeing headlines every day about streamlining across every major media company," he wrote. "Local news is the lifeblood of every market, and we are fortunate to have so many talented teams across the country invested in the communities the way that you are. Nothing is going to change our commitment to viewers as we evolve our organization to meet the challenges of today and in the future."

Disney's recent restructuring efforts have led to cuts in various divisions. Last month, the company's corporate structure and TV studios, including the merging of all scripted programming into one division and the closure of ABC Signature studio, experienced considerable changes. Earlier in the year, Pixar also downsized by about 175 jobs, signaling a move away from TV series production. Last year, Disney's reorganization saw the elimination of around 7,000 positions.
