Max and ID have secured the U.S. rights to a new Channel 4 documentary titled 'Spacey Unmasked,' which delves into actor Kevin Spacey's career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him. The two-part documentary, directed and produced by Katherine Haywood, aims to provide a comprehensive and forensic look into the matter.
Kevin Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner, was acquitted in July 2023 of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case related to accusations from four different men. The documentary, set to air on Channel 4 in the U.K. on May 6 and 7, will include interviews with multiple men who are unconnected to the case, sharing their experiences with Spacey. These individuals have rarely spoken about their encounters before.
The documentary also promises audiences unseen archival footage and interviews with the actor himself, shedding light on his time as the artistic director of London's Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015. The film will explore a timeline of alleged incidents that occurred between 2001 and 2013.
While premiere dates for the U.S. and other territories have yet to be announced, All3Media International has taken charge of international sales for the documentary. The company has struck a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, granting them the rights to distribute the film in the United States. It is expected that the documentary will be available for streaming on Max and will air on ID's cable channel.
Executive producers Dorothy Byrne and Mike Lerner, alongside Roast Beef Productions, known for their work on 'Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer,' have collaborated with All3Media International to bring 'Spacey Unmasked' to fruition.
Channel 4 has released a tantalizing teaser for the documentary, building anticipation for its upcoming release.
As the release date approaches, audiences eagerly await the critical examination of Spacey's career and the stories shared by those involved in 'Spacey Unmasked,' seeking a deeper understanding of the allegations that have surrounded the actor for years.
